The Omaha Community Playhouse recently announced the 2014-15 lineup for its Alternative Programming series, formerly called “21 & Over.” This September through June 2015, head to OCP for several free staged readings intended for mature audiences. The Alternative Programming series also includes “The Play’s The Thing: Drama Book Club,” a monthly meet-up to discuss new play scripts, starting August 26.

Sept. 22, 2014 – Howard Drew Theatre – 7:30 p.m.
A story about a middle-aged Caucasian woman opening her home to a former “Lost Boy” from Sudan. The play explores human kindness and whether or not one individual can make a difference in the world, while addressing the horrific events of the Second Sudanese Civil War.

21& Over: A lineup of staged readings of contemporary works and special events for a mature audience. The readings include simple, suggested technical elements and moments of physical blocking
Oct. 20, 2014 – Howard Drew Theatre – 7:30 p.m.

From the Ground Up: An official collaboration with the Great Plains Theatre Conference. From the Ground Up is a workshop that provides a safe and nurturing playground for artists to develop new work for the theatre. The playwright’s piece will be shared with an audience while still in the developmental phase then will continue to be developed to be included in the next Great Plains Theatre Conference.
December 8 – Hawks Mainstage – 7:30 p.m.
An evening of traditional African dancing and drumming with local artists. The mission of the African Culture Connection is to provide African culture and art experiences to the public to encourage an appreciation for the richness diversity brings to all.

Community Night Presentation: This evening gives other cultural organizations in the community an opportunity to share their art at OCP.
Jan. 5, 2015 – OCP Scott Lobby – 7:30 p.m.
The 5th annual karaoke event will be an evening of fun, laughter and great singing!
March 16, 2015 – Howard Drew Theatre – 7:30 p.m.
Meet the artists of tomorrow. This special evening will showcase the artistic talents of area teens.
